Automotive Service Technician
If you enjoy working with vehicles and want to build a strong career in the automotive field, this two-year diploma program provides an excellent starting point.
With guidance from experienced instructors, you will:
- Learn how to maintain, diagnose, and repair automotive systems
- Study manufacturer guidelines and service procedures
- Build customer service and communication skills
- Work directly on real vehicles to gain practical, hands-on experience
After completing the program, you’ll be prepared for a variety of roles, including positions as an apprentice or service advisor in general repair shops or specialized automotive facilities.
Many graduates choose to continue their development through an apprenticeship pathway. Program graduates are eligible to challenge the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Automotive Service Technician exams for periods one through four — an important step toward becoming a certified journeyperson automotive service technician.
As a journeyperson, you can focus on areas such as engine performance, electrical systems, drivability, chassis and suspension, wheel alignment, or automatic transmissions. Career growth can also lead to supervisory or management roles, including shop foreman or service manager.
With ongoing demand for skilled automotive service technicians, graduates have strong employment opportunities in the trade.
